antrim tantrum for an expired rice.
may your wheels ride true
and may your steering drift left.
watch out for that tree.
surfers and turfers,
it transported to and fro.
well, most of the time.
the ugly duckling
was actually a goose?
no, it was just fugly.
an accidental
environmentalist, it
leaked gas like water.
vermont plates, mass reg,
japanese know-how
were no match for time.
cute or dangerous?
depends. walking or driving?
walking? then watch out.
and may your steering drift left.

surfers and turfers,
it transported to and fro.
well, most of the time.

a mickey for the rrrice
a comparable motor vehicle.
limericks for the deceased (though maybe haikus would've been more appropriate)
by ari joseph
this song is for sam's brown rice,
which paid the ultimate price.
the mechanic mistook it,
for a speeding brown bullet,
and shot it to car paradise.
the interior was soft as snow,
and comfy, for those in the know.
it smelled a little funny,
sushi-esque, to be punny,
but finely upholstered, for sho'.
the engine was beyond salvation,
like a sinner bound for damnation.
it sped so fast,
by the yugos it passed,
earning it many a standing ovation.
i think that swank got it up to 80,
and the handling got kind of shady.
though i may be mistaken,
for it was my car he'd taken,
and driven it straight to hades.
the paintjob was hard to pin down,
"look for the one that is a kind of shitty brown."
its ol' pasty patches,
served to cover its crashes,
and if lost, it would always be found.
the damage had been already done,
and its glory set like the sun.
when the prophetic mechanic,
who was no rice fanatic,
put an end to an era of fun.

Dear All,
Let us join together in a moment of silence, to commemorate and remember our times together with Rice:
the-Rice (1991-July 14th 2008)
theRice was given to me by my grandfather - Skipper (Pipa to me) - a generous act of altruism to a budding young Middlebury student. Through the years, Rice contributed much to the community - from sweaty mid-august hauls on I-80 w/o AC, to spontaneous midnight expeditions across the border with the lovely Mischord ladies, to summer's with Stephen enduring high speed tail spins into BiHall - Rice never complained, never showed signs of age, never a whimper of pain.
On July 14, 2008 - theRice perished gracefully, without any harm to others. theRice queitly exited our world to slip into another.
Thank you Rice for all of these years... You were the backbone of a community and defined an era for many. We wish you well in the next stage of your being, we will miss you tremendously,
With Love,
Sam et. al.

I think somebody needs to go to Wikipedia and add "the death of the rice" to "notable events" that occurred on July 14th.

I had to be talked off the ledge after I heard the tragic news. What will become of Tortilla Flats- we've gone from a wall of two broke pieces dominating the street to nada. I pour a bag of Salt and Vinegar chips out in the Rice's memory. Dark days....

I still contend that those mysterious bald spots on the Rice tires just appeared while I was driving it....Sam, what happenened? Did it explode in a firey ball or something? This brings great sadness to me. No one will ever produce better riceballs.....or line up better in a street race.... tears...we will never forget.

Swank, Claire sent me the same email! Likely story- they don't have internet in Nicaragua. So where is she sending them from?
One time while driving the Rice to get groceries in Cambridge, I came across a collapsed bridge (I took the scenic route) and without thinking I gunned it and, rather than vaulting the gap, the rice roared and the Charles parted, allow us safe passage to Johnny's. True story.
